On the occasion of her 59th wedding anniversary, veteran actress Saira Banu shared a post recalling her wedding night with the late legendary actor Dilip Kumar, offering fans a glimpse into one of Bollywood’s most iconic love stories.

Taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane, she described the evening as “dreamlike” and “unreal,” filled with love, chaos, and laughter.
“A wistful drift into one of the most cherished evenings of my life, our wedding night, 59 years ago. The song ‘Do Sitaron Ka Zameen Par Hai Milan Aaj Ki Raat’ floated through the air like a blessing that wouldn’t fade,” she wrote, reminiscing how the melody played all night, echoing the joy in her heart. “If someone told me I could truly fly that evening, I would have believed them (sic),” Saira wrote.

Recalling the simplicity of the day, she added, “Nothing about that day was extravagant, yet it was perfect in its simplicity. My wedding joda was lovingly stitched by our local tailor; there were no grand designers, no detailed plans, no printed cards, just hurried excitement and heartfelt emotion. (sic)”

She shared that their wedding happened earlier than planned after Dilip Kumar called her from Calcutta and said, “Aap ek Maulvi ko bulaiye aur Nikaah karwa dijiye!”—turning what was to be a November ceremony into a spontaneous celebration.

Describing the charming chaos, she wrote, “The wedding itself was full of delightful chaos the Ghodi’s umbrella brushing against his Sehra, a sight so charming that it still makes me smile. Hundreds of admirers found their way into my home; it took me two hours to make my way down for the Nikaah ceremony. (sic)”

Recalling further, Saira said guests even took home little keepsakes, “People began pocketing tiny souvenirs – a fork here, a spoon there – as if they were collecting tokens from a fairytale. Oh, what a day that was! Unscripted, imperfect, and yet filled with a kind of joy that words can never truly capture. (sic)”

Ending her post on a touching note, the actor wrote, “That night remains etched in my heart, a memory that still glows softly, even after all these years. (sic)”

Known for keeping Dilip Kumar’s memory alive through her social media, Saira Banu continues to warm hearts with her heartfelt recollections and rare glimpses into their life together.
