Mira Rajput came under the spotlight after she married prominent Bollywood star, Shahid Kapoor in 2015. At the mere age of 20, the media began to follow her and her 13-year age gap with the actor used to make headlines. Coming from a non-filmy family with no connections in the film industry, everything was new for her. However, she has gradually established her identity as a content creator, entrepreneur and a mother of two. Consequently, she is admired not just for being Shahid’s wife but for her separate achievements as well. But initially, she was only recognised as a ‘star wife’ in the industry. In an interview, Mira Rajput shared her views on the same.
Mira Rajput questions the presence of nepotistic tags in Bollywood
Mira Rajput made an appearance on the Social Media Star With Janice Season 5. During the conversation, she discussed the labels that continue to follow her like that of a ‘star wife’. She shared that initially, it helps others to know about a person’s identity and brings them visibility. However, even when used on the children of celebrities who are called ‘star kids’, it unfairly puts them in a negative light. Consequently, she feels it should go away. In her words:
“Maybe it was an association that one needed to make for recall value. But even if you put that on a kid and you say star kid, people don’t like listening to star kid for all of its nepotistic connotations. Yet, that term is still in use — it needs to kind of find its way out.”
In the same conversation, Mira Rajput shared that she doesn’t understand why a label like ‘star wife’ is used to address a prominent actor’s wife. But the same doesn’t apply to the husband of a popular actress’s husband. Sharing her views, she said:
“I have never understood the concept of a star wife, what does that mean? You can have an actor, a celebrity, or a star who has a wife or a husband — but nobody ever says star husband. Why is there a star wife?”
Mira Rajput reveals it was ‘isolating’ to marry Shahid Kapoor at 20
In a previous conversation on the Moments of Silence podcast with its host, Naina Bhan and Sakshi Shivdasani, Mira Rajput shared that it felt isolating to marry Shahid at the age of 20 because her friends were travelling and studying. In contrast, she got married and moved to Mumbai. Given the differences in their situations and phases in life, she often used to desire if she could do what her friends were doing. At the same time, they used to get upset when she got busy with her new responsibilities. However, things have fallen into place with time. She said:
“I think we (Mira and her friends) did evolve separately. I’d like to admit that it was quite isolating because we were just in different phases of life at that time. You get to different phases in life, and you look at your friends… I wish I could do what she’s doing. I even remember, I couldn’t speak to them as often as I used to. They were like, ‘Just because you got married doesn’t mean you forget us!’ And I was like, ‘Guys, I’m genuinely caught up!'”

Shahid Kapoor met Mira Rajput and her family through an arranged setup as they shared the same spiritual path of the Radha Soami Satsang Beas. The actor admitted that initially, he felt hesitant about their bond due to their age gap but soon was impressed with Mira’s maturity. He could talk with her for hours, and after a few meetings, the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in 2015. They later became parents to a daughter named Misha and a son named Zain.
