One Direction disbanded at the peak of their career, after being active for only six years. However, these six years brought up a whole generation of music lovers. After some initial coldness, the five 1D members —Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik- had reconciled in recent years, and Directioners were hopeful about a reunion. However, tragedy struck the fandom and the former bandmates after the tragic death of Liam. Recently, Louis talked about whether One Direction would reunite following this insurmountable tragedy.
Louis Tomlinson reveals if there might be a One Direction reunion following Liam Payne’s death
Louis Tomlinson appeared on the podcast, The Diary of a CEO, and talked about the passing away of Liam Payne in 2024. When asked about the possibility of a reunion after tragically losing their former bandmate, Louis said that he cannot imagine. He also stated that it might not be the right thing to do. With a heavy heart, Louis shared:
“I can’t ever imagine… I’m not sure it would be right to Liam.”
Louis said that, perhaps 25 years from now, even if they are offered a huge amount of money for a show, he is not sure if it will be a possibility. However, the singer hasn’t stated that there are zero chances of a 1D reunion. Louis also said that there’s no one else who would have been in complete favour of a reunion more than the late Liam. Louis shared:
“For the sake of argument, say in 25 years, and it’s like a f**king Oasis thing… they offer us an arm and a leg and they’re like ‘Come back and do this number of shows.’ I don’t know. And the irony is, there’s no one who would have campaigned more for One Direction to come back than Liam. I’d say I came in close second.”

Louis Tomlinson calls Liam Payne’s death ‘unjust’ and ‘frustrating’
In an interview with Rolling Stones, Liam opened up about how it felt to celebrate One Direction’s 15th anniversary, and the first one without Liam. He said that it was uncomfortable, but it was also more important than ever to celebrate on behalf of Liam. Louis also shared that he once felt sick with nostalgia and said:
“You know, there’s still a level in my head where it feels unjust and frustrating that he’s (Liam) not with us anymore. So, it just brought up those feelings, although I’m still living with them anyway.”

Louis Tomlinson isn’t a stranger to grief. He lost his mother and younger sister in a span of four years. Louis’ mother passed awya from leukemia in 2016, while his sister died of an overdose in 2019. Louis shared that since he had gone through such sorrow before, he thought that he could cope with Liam’s death. However, the singer said that he had never lost a friend before. Louis stated:
“Naively, I thought that because at this point, I’m relatively well versed in grief for my age, that it might soften the blow. Super-naive. It’s very different. I’ve never lost a friend before.”
