Hollywood actor Saoirse Ronan has been cast as Linda McCartney, the wife of Sir Paul McCartney, in Sam Mendes’s ambitious four-part ‘Beatles’ biopic. The series, produced by Sony Pictures, will present one film for each member of the Beatles, with all four instalments set for theatrical release in April 2028. Paul Mescal will star as Paul McCartney, joined by Harrison Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. The films are the first ‘Beatles’ biopic officially authorised with full life story and music rights, granted by McCartney, Starr, and the families of the late Lennon and Harrison.
Sam Mendes’s project will consist of four separate films, each offering the viewpoint of one Beatles member. This approach provides a multifaceted look at the band’s evolution, capturing both individual journeys and their collective impact. The films intersect to tell the story of the group’s rise from Liverpool to global influence and their breakup in 1970. The tagline is “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary,” as per Variety.
All four parts of the ‘Beatles’ biopic are scheduled to premiere in cinemas in April 2028 as what Sony Pictures describes as the “first binge-able theatrical experience.” The exact rollout plan for the release has yet to be detailed.
This cinematic series is notable for being the first time full life story and music rights have been authorised for scripted films about the Beatles. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison have collectively granted these rights, ensuring a level of access and endorsement not previously seen in Beatles-related dramatisations.
Ronan, an Academy Award-nominated Irish actor, will portray Linda McCartney, who married Paul McCartney in 1969 and contributed as a musician in his band Wings. Linda McCartney was a key figure in Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles career, joining him as keyboardist and vocalist in Wings. She died in 1998 at the age of 56.
