Music composer Ismail Darbar has spoken candidly about his daughter-in-law, actor and former Bigg Boss winner Gauahar Khan, offering rare insight into their family dynamics. Gauahar is married to Darbar’s son Zaid Darbar, and the couple welcomed their second child earlier this year.
Ismail Darbar reveals he is old-school when it comes to Gauahar Khan and her career; says Zaid ‘has the right to tell her not to work’
In a recent interview, Ismail Darbar praised Gauahar for her strong bond with Zaid and her dedication as a mother. “All I know is that she has a wonderful relationship with Zaid, and that she is a wonderful mother. There is no harm in being honest about this,” he said.
However, the composer also reflected on his personal values and the principles that shape his views on family and work. He recalled how his wife, Ayesha Darbar, once chose to step away from her career to focus on their children. “The greatest thing my wife Ayesha did was stop working for her child’s sake. She was making Rs 5 lakh a month through shows at the time and was also getting acting offers. But she never said that she wanted to sing or perform. Even when I was in need of money, she didn’t offer to earn for us,” he shared.
Darbar went on to explain that his upbringing continues to influence his sense of propriety and comfort when it comes to modern entertainment. “Look, I come from a backward family. We used to turn away whenever a sensuous type of scene came in a movie. This happens in our house even today. Gauahar is a part of our family now, and we are responsible for her reputation. But I can’t tell her not to work; that right belongs only to Zaid. So, I don’t indulge in activities that might bother me,” he stated.
The veteran music director also emphasized that he prefers being straightforward rather than suppressing his opinions. “I’m not one to mince my words. I know that I will not be able to tolerate what I see, and if I am not able to tolerate what I see, I will confront them,” he said.
Gauahar Khan and Zaid Darbar tied the knot in December 2020 in a traditional nikaah ceremony attended by close family and friends. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Zeehan, in May 2023, and recently became parents for the second time. Known for her charm and versatility, Gauahar continues to balance her acting career, social media presence, and family life — all while earning admiration from fans and industry insiders too.
