Jennifer Lopez sure knows how to stay stoic in the spotlight.
The megastar appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday evening, wearing a golden sequin gown from Elie Saab and nude platform sandals. Once she was safely seated, the talk show host asked Lopez to set the record straight about some recent wardrobe mishaps.
While performing in Poland on July 25, Lopez made headlines with a major wardrobe malfunction that she can now only laugh about.
As the crowd was singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the star, she walked around the stage wearing a metallic gold triangle bra top and matching fringe mini skirt. On her arms were opera-length gold lamé gloves; she stepped into glittery gold ankle boots to complete the look.
Unfortunately, just as the song concluded, Lopez raised the microphone in thanks, and her entire skirt fell to her ankles.
The seasoned superstar started laughing immediately, saying, “I’m out here in my underwear, how do you like that? That’s gonna be everywhere.” Later, she threw the skirt into the crowd, announcing, “I’m glad that they reinforced that costume, and I’m glad that I had underwear on. I usually don’t wear underwear.”
Before the malfunction had occurred, Lopez’s backup dancers were seen adjusting the skirt, trying to avoid an accidental reveal.
When shown the clip, Lopez shared the real reason behind the mishap.
“They made that outfit that day. I had seen a picture of an old supermodel from, like, the ’90s, Yasmine Bleeth, and she had this cute little outfit … I was like, ‘let’s make this outfit.’ So they makeshift made an outfit because … I felt like it.”
Removing all blame from her incredible costume team, Lopez added that it “made them crazy to make this outfit. And they never had a chance to do it. Didn’t know if I was really gonna wear it, but I did at the last second. And I go out there, and the thing just falls apart.”
What’s more, in Kazakhstan last August, she casually flicked away a huge bug that was crawling up her neck, remembering that she “saw it in the light and it looked like a helicopter!”
As she finished a song, the big screen revealed a giant bug crawling up her black lace-up bodysuit, along her neck and towards her face.
With an effortless toss, “in timing with the song,” marvels Fallon, the insect was catapulted through the air, off of Lopez and out of the spotlight.
If there’s anyone ready to handle wardrobe malfunctions on massive international stages, it’s J.Lo.
After all, she’s still Jenny from the block.
