Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s new chat show, Two Much with Twinkle and Kajol, has been winning over many hearts, as the two hosts engage in deep conversations and candid discussions with their industry friends. In the latest episode, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan joined the two actresses. Twinkle and Akshay also got candid about their relationship and marriage, with the actress recalling a time when she had refused to star in a movie with her future husband.
Twinkle Khanna had avoided working with Akshay Kumar, but Rajesh Khanna convinced her
Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar‘s pairing in the 1999 film, International Khiladi, had lit up the screens on fire. In the same year they starred in their second film together, Julmi. However, behind this on-screen chemistry, a real-life romance was also blooming between the two actors. After 24 years of their marriage, Twinkle revealed in her chat show that it was actually her father, Rajesh Khanna who had convinced her to work with Akshay Kumar. Meanwhile, the actress didn’t want to star opposite him since he had been giving back-to-back flops at the time. Twinkle shared:
“We actually met because of my dad. My dad had an old producer friend.’ He said, ‘You have to work in this movie because I have given my word.’ I didn’t want to work with him at that point, but I did. He was going through a bad phase, and I was being snobby.”
Saif Ali Khan, who also featured in the episode as a guest alongside Akshay, defended his ‘bad phase’. Talking about the Khiladi actor’s flops, Saif stated:
“You’ve always given some flops and then super hits, so who cares?”
Akshay Kumar revealed that Twinkle Khanna researched his family’s health history before getting married
Akshay Kumar revealed a hilarious anecdote about his relationship with Twinkle before they got married. The actor said that, instead of matching kundali like most people usually do, Twinkle did research on his family’s genetic background. The actress was very cautious about finding out whether Akshay’s family had any genetic diseases or disorders. Once she was satisfied with the results, she agreed to the marriage. Akshay shared:
“Aadmi jab shaadi karta hai toh do kundliyaan milata hai. She didn’t believe in that. You know what she did? She checked if my father had any kind of disease—she’s removed all the genetic and DNA background till my mamas, chachas and chachis. And then, and only then, she decided that, okay, I can marry him.”
In their appearance together on Koffee With Karan in 2016, Akshay and Twinkle had discussed this same incident. The actress turned author had defended her research and said:
“The reason you get married is primarily to have children. So, you are introducing this genetic strain into your family line. I wanted to know what diseases run in his family. At what age did his uncles lose their hair? What did Kanchan Chachi die of?”
