UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who is currently on his first official visit to India, visited the Yash Raj Films (YRF) studio in Mumbai on October 8. The British leader was hosted by YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani and actress Rani Mukerji for a special film screening.

Recently, Yash Raj Films studio organised an exclusive movie screening in honour of the visiting Prime Minister. Keir Starmer was joined by Rani Mukerji and Akshaye Widhani as the trio watched a YRF film together and engaged in discussions on potential film collaborations and creative exchanges between the UK and India’s entertainment industries.
The visit marked an important cultural engagement during Starmer’s two-day India tour, aimed at strengthening trade, business, and creative ties between the two nations. Earlier, while en route to Mumbai, Starmer launched the UK’s largest-ever trade mission to India right from the cockpit of his flight.
He was accompanied by more than 125 leading business, academic, and cultural figures. Addressing the delegates mid-flight, Starmer said, “This is the Prime Minister. I’m in the cockpit. And, a very warm welcome to BA Flight 9100 to Mumbai. It’s really fantastic to have you all on board. This is the biggest trade mission to India that the UK has ever sent. I’m much looking forward to working with you as we explore all of the opportunities and take full advantage of the opportunities in our new free trade agreement.”
Starmer’s meeting with Rani Mukerji and Akshaye Widhani at YRF highlighted the growing synergy between the UK and India’s film sectors. The visit also reflected YRF’s continued contribution to strengthening cultural diplomacy through cinema.
