Anil Kapoor had an interesting conversation on day 2 of the silver jubilee edition of FICCI Frames 2025 at a five-star hotel in Mumbai on the choice of his films and a lot more. He began with serious discussions on cinema, but soon entertained audiences as he opened up on some of his iconic films and how he reacts to criticism. He said that he encouraged the younger generation not to take negative responses to their films to heart.
FICCI Frames 2025: Anil Kapoor reveals how he consoled low-spirited Ranbir Kapoor on Animal sets after Shamshera’s debacle: “Ek accha shot dete hai. Kal tak sab bhool jaayenge!”
Anil Kapoor revealed, “I remember I was shooting for Animal (2023) and Ranbir Kapoor arrived. His film Shamshera (2022) had just been released and he was very down. He came and told me, ‘Sab mujhe kaise dekh rahe hai; itni badi flop di hai maine’. I told him, ‘Kuch nahin hai. Ek accha shot dete hai. Kal tak sab bhool jaayenge’!”
He added, “This was the time when we were doing the photoshoot. I told him, ‘Don’t take it to heart. You are imagining that people are thinking’. Once you have accepted and once you do your work honestly, then it’s all fine. Success and failure are not in your hands. You just go and do it honestly. That’s what happened. The next day, we were shooting about something else. We were jamming and discussing how to do our scene with Vanga sahab (Sandeep Reddy Vanga). Ultimately, Animal became a blockbuster. People forgot about Shamshera. They only associate him with Animal (laughs).”
When pointed out that Animal was massively criticized by a section of the audience, Anil replied, “So many of my films have got a lot of criticism. You name a film and I’ll tell you what people said about it!”
This led to people mentioning some of his films. Anil joked, “For Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), people said ‘Climax accha nahin tha. Thodi lambi thi. It was not as good as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (2011). But I feel it has got as long legs as ZNMD.”
He raised laughs as he stated, “Many called Beta (1992) as ‘Beti’. But I won the National Award for it (laughs)!”
