George Clooney is opening up about his decision to raise his children on a farm in France rather than in Los Angeles.

During a recent interview with Esquire magazine, the two-time Oscar winner offered a peek into what his life is like outside of Hollywood, with his wife, Amal Clooney, and their children, twins Ella and Alexander.

“We’re very lucky,” the Jay Kelly actor said. “You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for them, it’s like — they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”

Clooney continued, “I was worried about raising our kids in L. A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France — they kind of don’t give a shit about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

The Wolfs actor has been on a recent press tour for his upcoming film, Jay Kelly, which sees him star opposite Adam Sandler. The Noah Baumbach-directed film is set to his theaters on Nov. 14.

While chatting with The Hollywood Reporter at the pic’s New York Film Festival premiere at the end of September, Clooney reflected on not living a life of regret, which is opposite to his character Jay Kelly, a movie star embarking on a journey through self discovery.

“When I read the script, the two things I thought of were I knew how to play the guy, but I was also so thrilled that in real life I hadn’t lived a life of regret, which is what this guy is dealing with at 64 years old,” he said at the time. “So I was thrilled that I was going to get a chance to explore it, but I was also thrilled that I wasn’t actually living that life.”
