For the unversed, Triyuginarayan Temple, which is situated in the village of Triyuginarayan in Rudraprayag district, Uttrakhand, is believed to be the holy place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. The word, ‘Triyuginarayan’ holds a deep meaning, where ‘Tri’ stands for three and ‘Yug’ means the ages (Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga) and ‘Narayan’ represents another name for Lord Vishnu. It is said that Lord Vishnu did the kanyadaan during the union of Shiva and Parvati. While this temple is well-known for the fact that it’s the vivah sthal of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Indian bride and groom chose the Triyuginarayan Temple as their wedding location

Indian bride, Parul Arora and her groom, Shivankar Arora, chose the famous temple, Triyuginarayan Temple, to perform their wedding ritual. For their wedding ceremony, Parul picked a mint green-hued stunning georgette fabric saree, which is crafted with intricate handwork. She paired it up with a sleeveless blouse with a multicoloured flower design and with an organza dupatta featuring delicate border embellishments. On the other hand, Shivankar wore a pink-hued kurta and an ivory-shade pyjama and paired it up with a shawl matched with the bride’s outfit. The Indian bride accessorised her look with a choker neckpiece, matching earrings, a maang tikka, chooda and kaleeras.

More about the holy place, Triyuginarayan Temple

According to folklore, it was Lord Brahma who performed the wedding duties as a priest during Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s marriage, while Lord Vishnu performed the rituals as the Goddess’ brother. There are reports that say there is a stone at the front side of the temple called Brahma Shila, which is marked as the exact spot where Shiva and Parvati took the pheras. But do you know how old is the temple?

As per the Hindu folklore, the temple is 1200 years old. Yes, you read it right. The structure of this holy wedding place was built by renowned author, saint and philosopher, Adi Shankara. The temple is situated above the mountain, which is approximately 1,980 meters above sea level. The temple is made of wood and stones, and features intricate carvings. In terms of architecture, the Triyuginarayan temple reflects the Nagara style which is common to North Indian Temples.

People often visit the Kedarnath temple, when they come to Triyunarayan temple. Many couples choose this temple as it is believed whoever exchanged vows in this holy site gets the blessings of the divine powerful energies of Shiva and Parvati.
