During her June cover shoot for The Nod Magazine, Kareena Kapoor Khan opened up about her latest reading obsession—and it turns out even Bollywood’s glam icon can’t resist a gripping murder-mystery.
Kareena Kapoor Khan is hooked on Jessica Bull’s A Fortune Most Fatal; calls it “cool period crime drama”
Asked about the one book she finds transformative, Kareena was quick to clarify, “I don’t read those kinds of books. Like, I enjoy more crazy crime thrillers, you know… I am reading Jessica Bull’s latest crime thriller. It’s called A Fortune Most Fatal. It’s really cool—period crime drama, World War II kind of setting… about sisters and brothers, their fortune, and who inherits what. It’s taking up all my time.”
The actor, who has been gracing the screen for more than half her life, has always been selective about her choices in cinema. “I’ve had the privilege of doing so many different kinds of cinema, so many roles. And even now, I don’t feel like it’s enough,” she says about her filmography and the evolution of her craft. “I never want to feel like I’ve done everything.”
At 44, Kareena is re-evaluating her career trajectory, embracing the philosophy that “doing less is doing more.” Until recently, she would appear in five to six films a year. Today, she carefully curates her projects, prioritizing depth over volume.
“Doing less is doing more… It’s about choosing the right roles, ones that challenge me and excite me. I want to preserve my energy, my talent, myself,” she explains. Last year, she starred in two mainstream films—Crew and Singham Again. The actress has started shooting for Meghna Gulzar’s crime drama Daayra, opposite Malayalam star Prithviraj. There is also growing buzz about a Netflix docuseries featuring her close ones.
