Matthieu Blazy‘s debut collection for Chanel, presented in Paris on Monday, reimagined the French house’s classic cap-toe.

Among the footwear statements, a number of elegant, high-cut heels rounded out Blazy’s looks, which were modeled in a celestial setting at Grand Palais amid Paris Fashion Week. The designer played with the proportions of the quintessential cap-toe pump, in one case making the toe accent smaller.

This could be seen in different color combinations, including beige with a black-cap toe, which is the palette of the famous two-toned slingback created by Coco Chanel and Parisian shoemaker Raymond Massaro. Introduced in 1957, the look became a signature of the house.

Another prominent shoe style from the show also played up color contrast. A patent square-toe heel with a pointed, high-cut vamp featured trim along the upper and down the center of the vamp to the toe. From red with white trim to white with black trim, the shoe had many versions come down the runway, providing a striking linear accent to several outfits.

Another heel style made use of layering and cut outs with a triangular-shaped strap atop a low-cut vamp, leaving portions of the foot exposed and creating a futuristic aesthetic. The style featured a thin contrasting trim along the upper as well.

Additional footwear looks included a loafer-like square-toe pump, a square-toe cap toe mule and a D’orsay style featuring dainty linear detailing on the vamp. Another standout was a bold black and red colorway of a cap toe slingback.
