Recently, the Kajra Re singer, Alisha sat down for a candid interview with Zoom, in which she opened up about the lowest phase of her life, during which she even mentioned her troubled marriage, financial stress and her father’s cancer diagnosis. While talking about her marriage with then-husband, Rajesh Jhaveri, she revealed that she couldn’t even enjoy her success because she was going through a divorce. She was quoted as saying:
“It was a very challenging time. On one side, I had this humungous success and on the personal side, I was having so many problems. I was going through my divorce, it was a bit of a traumatic time. Every incident upset me personally, that is why I was not able to enjoy my success.”
She continued to add that there was a point where she felt that she couldn’t stay in that marriage and wanted to break it. She revealed that she had told Rajesh that they are better as friends and not as couple. However, she agreed that it was a wrong decision to break the marriage, but later the ex-couple parted ways mutually. While talking about her parents’ reaction on her divorce, she shared:
“My parents were aghast, they told me to try and work it out. I told them never mind, took a PG accommodation and ran off with nothing in my pocket. It was tough, but I was getting a lot of songs so I was okay. It’s just self-belief that has taken me everywhere.”
Alisha Chinai was in debt when her father was diagnosed with cancer
In the same interview with Zoom, the Touch Me singer also shared about her depression phase, when she felt that she couldn’t make it. She revealed after a few years of parting ways with Rajesh, she found out that her dad had cancer. While talking about that difficult time, she mentioned that she saw a time when she had no money and was fighting everything all alone. In her words:
“I went through a bad phase in the last 12-15 years. My dad got cancer… there was no one else really to help him. He felt that I was the only one who could handle it. I kind of said yes, because it’s my duty. So, I did and got caught up with all that. It was a very low time. I was short of funds, we were in debts. There was no one, just I, me and myself fighting it all. There was a time when I thought that this is it, I am done. I was depressed, I was down and out. It was a very humiliating and also a humbling time, I am thankful for that. I didn’t take therapy, but I think I should have.”
