Shivangi Joshi is one of the most loved new-age television actresses. She rose to fame with her impeccable portrayal as ‘Naira’ in Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. However, her acting talents were not limited to the show, she has since appeared in several shows and music videos, winning over the audience with her gorgeous smile. Nonetheless, her journey in the entertainment industry has not been easy.
Shivangi Joshi opened up about being mocked by senior actors
Shivangi Joshi, in an old interview with ETimes TV, opened up about her struggle in the entertainment industry during her initial days. She revealed that she had to deal with failures, body shaming, trolls and more. She shared that she faced hard criticism and added that on her first day of the shooting, her director had asked her to give the camera a look, and since she was new to the stint, she thought she had to look into the camera and speak her lines.
Shivangi had no knowledge of what the director wanted of her. While he was extremely supportive and explained everything to her, the senior actors present on the set started making mocking remarks at her. She revealed how her mother overheard them but didn’t react. Instead, she urged her to work harder and do her best. She stated:
“They said something which hurt me a lot and I went into my vanity van and cried a lot. They told, ‘Pata nahi Kahan se le aate hain, Sirf shakal dekh ke le aate hain, acting toh aati nahi, Humara time waste ho raha hai.’ I remember on the last day of the shoot, the same people cried a lot that I am leaving the show. I was very hurt by the words.”
Shivangi Joshi revealed that she cried a lot when she and her mom initially moved to Mumbai
Shivangi, who hails from Dehradun, revealed in the same conversation that when she and her mother decided to move to Mumbai, they didn’t know anyone. She added that she cried a lot when they first moved. Elaborating further, Shivangi shared that the room was very dark, and she didn’t know how they would manage. She couldn’t even sleep the entire night, and her mother had to speak to the watchman to find them a different flat, which they eventually did. The actress recalled that it was a small but beautiful house. She was quoted as saying:
“When my mom and I decided to come to Mumbai we didn’t know anyone here. In fact, the first day when I landed here I cried a lot because in our hometown we had a big bungalow but in Mumbai we had to stay in a flat. The space is very less as compared to houses in small towns. The first flat we got was so small it had only one room and it was the PG system and there were other girls also.”

Shivangi Joshi recalled she would give at least four auditions every day for the first six months
In the same conversation, Shivangi revealed that she and her mother, soon started asking people about the auditions. She recalled that they didn’t even know what they were called and would just ask people whom they should reach out to if she wanted to act. She further added that she would walk in and give the interviews, without considering the age groups. She would just walk in and read the briefs mentioned on the gate.
Shivangi recalled how she had been fortunate enough that the casting directors would not turn her away. She revealed that for six months, she gave at least four auditions every day. Shivangi added that she finally got her break in a Tamil ad after that. She stated:
“I have given numerous auditions, I would give at least 4 auditions in a day. I did this for 6 months every single day. After that, I got my first break, and it was a Tamil ad shoot. That’s how it started, and I started getting calls after that.”
