OpenAI’s Sora app is making waves on social media. Users are getting the most out of the Sora 2 generation model to create impressive AI videos. However, this has raised concerns over the creation of deepfakes, particularly without a user’s consent. Now, OpenAI has added new restrictions aimed at curbing any unwanted creation of yourself by other users.

Bill Peebles, head of Sora at OpenAI, shared a post on X outlining the changes. The AI firm has added cameo restrictions to the app. This will allow users to filter out any unwanted words they do not want to be speaking in videos or videos having certain topics. For example, you can mention, “Don’t put me in videos that involve political commentary.” This will ensure that no one is able to create a political video featuring you on the app.

The cameo feature allows others to use your appearance in videos. Though, there is an option to turn off cameos completely, the new restriction is suited for those who want to remain in cameos but with greater control.

The internet has been flooded with such content where users are seen in AI videos which are against their political views. Peebles stated that OpenAI will be working on further cracking down on unwanted generations. He said, “We’re continuing to hillclimb on making restrictions even more robust, and we will add new ways for you to stay in control of your cameo in the future.”

OpenAI brings more changes to Sora as app tops charts

Another update to Sora is the watermark. Bill Peebles stated that OpenAI was going to make the Sora watermark “clearer and more visible.” This will allow users to quickly recognise that the clip had been generated by AI.

OpenAI was also enhancing model safety by adjusting the Sora stack, Peebles insisted that this would help avoid loopholes that may have been exploited by some users. Lastly, OpenAI has fixed an issue that forced users to delete their ChatGPT account while deleting their Sora account.

Sora topped the charts in Apple’s App Store in the US. The app is only available in the US and Canada for now. OpenAI has not revealed a possible timeline for a global release yet.

OpenAI is not the only firm in the race for AI videos. Meta has already launched an AI-only feed in the Meta AI app, just for videos. Additionally, Elon Musk’s xAI is pushing Grok Imagine, particularly on X.
