Filmmaker Tanuja Chandra’s Zindaggi Rocks turns 19 today. The film was a musical entertainer starring Sushmita Sen and Shiny Ahuja and it was produced by Anurradha Prasad. On the movie’s anniversary, Chandra looked back at it in an interview with us.

One of your most underrated works is 19 on October 6

This was a difficult film to shoot because it had a very small budget and we had fewer shoot days than I’d had before. So, while it was a challenge, we worked very hard toward achieving concessions from fancy locations and creating multiple sets in one place.

What was it like working with THE Sushmita Sen?

Sushmita is a large-hearted woman and that’s what I fondly remember about her. She was a keen listener and a very affectionate person on the set.

She played a rock star

Who better qualified! She had many songs though, being a rockstar in the film, and it was tough for her to memorise so many lines of songs, but her luminous presence made it possible for us to cheat around that. She’s a natural lover of children and was able to feel genuine warmth for the child’s character as well as the story of the film.
