If you remember, last year, Elvira, real name Cassandra Peterson, named Ariana her worst celebrity encounter during a fan Q&A. According to her, the two met at one of Elvira’s events, which Ariana attended with a group of friends and family.
“She wanted 20, 21 tickets,” Elvira shared. “We’re like, ‘Okay,’ and we give her the tickets. She gets backstage and she asks if I could take pictures with all of her friends and relatives she brought.”
“I take a picture with every single one of them. I sign autographs for every single one of them. Then I say to her, ‘Can we take a photo together?'”
“She goes, ‘Nah, I don’t really do that.'”
“And then she left before my show started!” Elvira added. “All the relatives stayed, and she took off.”
In response, Ariana shared a statement on Instagram, claiming she didn’t remember the incident at all. “I’m so disheartened to see this,” she wrote. “I actually don’t even remember getting the chance to meet you because I had an anxiety attack and to my memory, left before the rest of my family.”
“But if I’m misremembering this moment, I sincerely apologize for offending you so,” she continued.
Ariana went on to say she remembered Elvira being so “nice” and “lovely” to her mom — though she joked her mom “might have different feelings” now after Elvira called her out. “Clearly, we all have our days!” she added. “Sending you love always.”
At the time, people had mixed feelings about Ariana’s message, calling it “fake” and “passive-aggressive” — and it looks like Elvira felt the same way.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said Ari’s apology didn’t sit right with her, especially the comment about the way “her mom used to really like me, but maybe not now.”
“What’s the word? You know, where you do something, but you really have other thoughts in mind? Like, ‘Thank you, not really, thank you,'” she said.
“After that response from her, no, I just let the whole thing drop,” Elvira added, confirming they haven’t spoken since the incident.
She also stood by her version of events: “I told a story that really happened. She did it. I wasn’t making it up. It was very offensive. I had all the celebrities who I had ever come to my show — and there was a ton — were always gracious and kind, and, um, she was not. I’m sorry to say that. It’s disappointing when you hear things like that, and learn things like that. It’s sad. But, oh well.”
Well then! We’ve contacted Ari’s reps for comment — we’ll let you know if we hear back.
