I love this 1927 Roger Viollet portrait of M. Balenciaga, and the tones of the photograph seem to be refelected in the set. It was said he was the only couturier, of his era, who could make a garment from start to finish. In fact, Hamish Bowles wrote that “Each of his collections, to the very end, included a little black dress that Balenciaga had made entirely himself.”
