Hamas on Friday announced that it has agreed to release all Israeli hostages — whether alive or deceased — as part of a framework advanced by US President Donald Trump to end the conflict in Gaza.
In a statement, the militant group said it was prepared to “immediately engage in negotiations through mediators to discuss details of this matter.” The move, if realised, would mark the most significant breakthrough in months of efforts to secure the return of hostages taken during the October 2023 assault on Israel.
Hamas also reiterated that it was willing to hand over the administration of Gaza to a Palestinian body of “independent technocrats,” signaling openness to a transitional governing structure that could bypass the faction’s direct control.
The group went further to publicly thank Trump for his role, along with Arab, Islamic, and international partners. “Hamas appreciates Arab, Islamic, and international efforts, as well as the efforts of US President Donald Trump,” the statement read.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump asked Palestinian terrorist group Hamas to reach a peace deal with Israel by Sunday, 6 pm, warning that otherwise all hell will break out. Trump said that Hamas is being given one last chance to accept his peace plan, release the Israeli hostages and call it a day on the hostilities, saying “there will be peace one way or the other”.
Trump, who has been pushing both Israel and Hamas to agree on a peace deal to end the two-year-long Gaza war, outlined a 20-point proposal that not only calls for an immediate halt to the fighting but also lays out a framework for Gaza’s postwar governance. The White House had released the plan, describing it as a roadmap for both ending the conflict and shaping the territory’s future administration.
