Next to buying the ring and planning the perfect proposal, picking the music for your wedding is one of the most important decisions a young couple can make when getting married. And when you are arguably the biggest pop star in the world the pressure to hit the right notes on your special night is amped up several notches.
Luckily for Taylor Swift, she knows a guy, and she’s pretty sure that guy won’t have to be asked twice to perform at her and Travis Kelce‘s wedding, whenever, and wherever, that is. During an interview with the U.K.’s Hits Radio Breakfast Show on Friday (Oct. 3) as part of her promotion of the just-released The Life of a Showgirl album, co-host Fleur East noted that when the morning crew spoke to Ed Sheeran a few weeks ago, “he told us he is constantly asked to perform at people’s weddings,” so, naturally, she asked, “Is he singing at your wedding?”
“It would be hard to keep him from it, I think,” Swift said with a smile of her longtime friend and one-time tour mate as the show’s hosts joked that Sheeran definitely has that jumping-up-at-a-wedding “energy.”
“He’s like, ‘I’m always being asked to sing at weddings,’” Swift said jokingly of Sheeran’s endless enthusiasm to bust out a song. “It’s like, Ed, if there’s a stage you know that you’ll be on it. He knows what people want and he wants to give people what they want. That’s the fun thing about our friendship is we both love performing we love writing and we love singing. So, it’s like we’re like, ‘Oh, don’t make me sing! All right!’”
Swift said it’s actually not that hard to talk herself or Sheeran into performing at “anything.” In fact, the two old pals were at a mutual unnamed friend’s wedding recently and they were chatting about the time Sheeran joined Swift at London’s Wembley Stadium during her Eras Tour and how when they’re in a room rehearsing or writing something together there’s a “strange mind meld thing that happens” between them.
Taylor also reminisced about Sheeran’s great “woods wedding” in December 2018, when he married longtime girlfriend Cheery Seaborn in front of around 40 friends and family at their Christmas nuptials.
While neither Swift nor Kelce have shared any details about when or where they plan to wed, on his New Heights podcast last month the Kansas City Chiefs tight end hinted that they might opt for a band instead of a DJ, saying, “I think we’re live music kind of people.” Either way, so far they’ve got some pretty good options, with Rock Hall of Famers Foreigner offering to be their wedding band and DJ Mark Ronson saying he’d also be happy to man the turntables at their party.
