Cruz Beckham brought surrealist footwear codes to Paris Fashion Week on Friday, stepping out in JW Anderson’s frog loafers — a playful collaboration with Wellipets that fused PVC nostalgia with avant-garde design.

The amphibian slip-ons, crafted in glossy green rubber with bulging eyes perched across the vamp, were first introduced at JW Anderson’s fall 2023 menswear show in Milan. Originally conceived as a wink to childhood staples, the shoes have since evolved into one of Jonathan Anderson’s most recognizable experiments in surrealist footwear. On Beckham, they served as both a style flex and a knowing nod to Anderson’s penchant for irreverence.

Beckham paired the PVC frog slip-ons with wide-leg trousers and a parka-style jacket in military green. The bulbous eyes at the vamp made the frogs impossible to miss against the casual layers.
The Wellipets collaboration marked Anderson’s most literal play on memory. “Something about them reminds me of my childhood, they were such a thing to have,” Anderson said of the design on Wellipets’ website. “It is the only surrealist moment in the collection which, ultimately, is like a cassette player. It’s an icon of design.”

That same instinct has shaped his broader shoe output this season. Earlier this week, Anderson made his womenswear debut at Dior, where footwear codes turned equally surreal — from oversized rosette mules to feather-like embellishments. In that context, Beckham’s frog loafers felt less like a gimmick and more like a continuation of the designer’s Paris momentum.

For Beckham, the choice carried both humor and fashion weight. Frog shoes may not rival the rosettes and slingbacks dominating the shows, but as a street-style statement they embodied what Anderson has built his career on: collapsing nostalgia, wit and craft.
