England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt said that they will put their experience of playing in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) to good use in the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2025 in India. England are set to begin their campaign against South Africa on Friday, October 3, at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

Sciver-Brunt was handed over England’s leadership duties in April earlier this year, replacing Heather Knight. As she leads the team in her maiden ICC event as skipper, the England captain is keen on using the experience gained by playing in the WPL to hold their nerves in front of loud and passionate Indian fans.

“I think it will be important. I think, obviously, we’re not playing in exactly the same venues as we did do in the WPL. Each venue that we go to will throw up different conditions for us. I think we’ll be able to use that experience, especially playing in front of louder crowds and people who are really excited to watch cricket. Certainly, when we come up against India, we’ll have to use that experience as well,” said Sciver-Brunt in the pre-match press conference.

Furthermore, she also emphasised the need to share the WPL experience with players who haven’t played much cricket in India.

“But yeah, I think the experience everyone has in the group and the learnings that we’ve taken from that, making sure that we share that with the people who haven’t played so much over here in India, yeah, it’ll be massively important in taking those learnings,” she added.

England have had good preparations in the lead-up to the World Cup, having won both of their warm-up matches against India and Australia. However, they haven’t had a good year in the 50-over format, having lost series against Australia (0-3) and India (1-2). Hence, England will look to get off to a winning start against South Africa, in a fixture which is expected to be the first major clash of the tournament so far.
