With its spring 2026 collection, Louis Vuitton is exploring and subverting “indoor” dressing. But what does that mean for shoes?

With guests like Zendaya and Lisa on the front row, the brand unveiled its new collection by designer Nicolas Ghesquière at the The Louvre at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, and footwear was a particularly eye-catching.
Socks played a major role in creating distinctive layered footwear looks. A textured black slipper came down the runway, for instance, accented with a loose ankle sock with delicate gold embroidery. Another slipper, this one with a skinny slingback strap, featured an intricate needlepoint design with red, yellow and blue enriching it — and more colorful needlepoints shoes came down the runway.
The show also presented a fringy moccasin-adjacent boot style with a sock-like fit featuring a signature design of the house. Woven lace-up sneakers could also be seen, as well as metallic gold shoes with interweaving straps, a pointed-toe shoe with a version of a T-strap, moccasin-esque shoes with laces and more styles. For so many of the footwear looks, a striking sock completed the look.

According to the brand’s show notes, the collection “is a celebration of the art of living. More specifically, a celebration of intimacy and the boundless freedom of the private sphere.” The brand added, “The lineup expresses a high degree of sartorial freedom and a certain stylistic liberation. It suggests inventiveness, a subversion of the principles and functions typically associated with an ‘indoor’ wardrobe.”

WWD’s collection review said, “What a treat to see a designer synonymous with sci-fi futurism and architectural silhouettes apply himself to cozier fashion territory: coats with teddy-bear textures and bathrobe shapes; fuzzy knit sweaters and drop-crotch shorts, and dresses as simple as togas, or swags of gorgeous fabric.”
Following a description of embellished clothing, European editor Miles Socha wrote, “On the other end of the spectrum were dead simple cotton tops, wide-legged silk pants and even socks and sandals, although the socks came in glossy brocades.”
