A 36-year-old woman was raped inside her apartment building by a homeless man in the early hours of Sunday, leaving her so terrified that she begged to pay him to stop the assault, according to the New York Post.
New York City Police Department identified the suspect as Kenneth Siriboe, 21, who allegedly carried out the assault inside the residential building on East Gun Hill Road near Putnam Place in Norwood. The violent attack unfolded around 5 am (local time).
According to a criminal complaint, Siriboe allegedly approached the woman in the building’s hallway, placing one hand over her mouth and squeezing her throat with the other. He forced her to the ground, punched her repeatedly, and then raped her.
She begged him to stop and even offered him money to make the assault end, reported NY Post.
Prosecutors said the attacker snatched the victim’s Coach purse, wallet, $250 in cash, her identification card, and keys before fleeing the scene.
SUSPECT CAUGHT ON CAMERA
Footage released by the NYPD showed the suspect running down the stairwell of the building shortly after the assault. In the video, he appeared to pull up his pants while a towel hung around his neck.
It remains unclear how Siriboe entered the building.
Siriboe was tracked down and arrested Monday afternoon inside another Bronx building, about two miles away from the scene of the attack.
He was arraigned Monday evening and charged with multiple offences, including rape, robbery, burglary, grand larceny, and criminal obstruction of breathing. A judge ordered him held on $30,000 bail.
Prosecutors said Siriboe’s last known address was in Union Beach, New Jersey. He has no prior arrests in New York City, though police are continuing to examine whether he is linked to other incidents. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
