NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Saturday demanded an amendment in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and suggested declaring Pakistan a terrorist state. While addressing a press conference, Kapil Sibal claimed that during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s tenure, terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir kept reducing. “The real issue is terrorism. That’s why our foreign policy should focus on the fact that the Pakistani state is a factory of terrorism. I have said earlier as well — we should bring an amendment in the UN, we should add a schedule where we declare: under this schedule, Pakistan is listed as a terrorist state,” Kapil Sibal said. “So that when we go to the global stage, we can say: You’re doing trade with them — why don’t you tell them to shut this down? Because it’s good for the world, it’s good for our progress, it will embolden others, including the people of Pakistan, and it will also benefit the people of Kashmir. They won’t become victims. Ordinary citizens won’t become victims. So the focus of foreign policy should be this,” he added. This statement came amid the heightened security tension between India and Pakistan after April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians. After the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking 9 terror infra site in Pakistan and PoK. After the Operation Sindoor, Pakistan sent drones and missiles and tried to attack Indian air bases but all were intercepted by Indian military arms. Later, on May 10, both the countries agreed for ceasefire. During former PM Manmohan Singh’s tenure, terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir kept reducing, Sibal claimsSibal welcomed the decision regarding the all-party delegation’s international visits. He expressed satisfaction that Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged opposition’s suggestions, noting that collaborative problem-solving becomes possible when the opposition’s input is considered.“After 26/11 attacks, the then PM Manmohan Singh decided to send delegations to different countries to show the world that Pakistan is a terrorist state and that terrorists are born there…An environment was created in the world that Pakistan is a factory which produces terrorism…During former PM Manmohan Singh’s tenure, terrorist attacks in J&K kept reducing. The terrorist attacks in 2014 in J&K were less than the later years after 2014,” Sibal stated during a press conference in the national capital.“After the ceasefire, I demanded that an all-party delegation visit different countries…I am very happy that PM Modi heard the demand of the opposition. I always say that if he considers our advice, the solution to many problems can be reached together,” he further remarked.A delegation comprising seven members from various parties is scheduled to visit significant partner nations, including UN Security Council members, later this month regarding Operation Sindoor and India’s ongoing efforts against cross-border terrorism.
