Filmmaker Anees Bazmee, known for directing Bollywood hits like Welcome, Singh Is Kinng, No Entry, and the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise, has now ventured into Marathi cinema with Jarann that marks his first presentation in the regional space. The film stars Amruta Subhash in the lead and is slated to release in theatres on June 6, 2025.

Backed by Anees Bazmee Productions in association with A & N Cinemas LLP, A3 Events & Media Services, and co-produced by Manann Dania Films, Jarann marks a significant crossover between mainstream filmmaking and regional storytelling. Sharing his motivation behind supporting the project, Bazmee said, “I came to Bombay at a young age, and the state has been instrumental in shaping my life. Over the years, I have deeply admired the exceptional quality of Marathi cinema, known for its compelling content and immensely talented actors, many of whom I am fortunate to call friends. When I came across this film, I was instantly drawn to its powerful narrative and the director’s remarkable talent. Having worked extensively with Marathi artists, I believe it is both a privilege and a responsibility to support and promote Marathi cinema, which continues to deliver such impactful storytelling.”
The teaser for Jarann was recently released and hints at a narrative steeped in fear and psychological tension. The visuals suggest supernatural occurrences affecting a married woman, with a hidden mystery at the center of the story. One of the teaser’s standout moments features Anita Date in a chilling look—draped in a red saree with loose hair and vermillion, engaged in a ritual that alludes to an ominous past.
Director Anees Bazmee also added, “Every time I shoot outside India, I find myself missing Maharashtra — my karmabhoomi, my creative home. There’s a certain energy, a rhythm here that fuels my work like nowhere else.”
Directed by Rushikesh Gupte and produced by Amol Bhagat and Nitin Bhalchandra Kulkarni, Jarann features a strong ensemble cast including Amruta Subhash, Anita Date, Kishor Kadam, Jyoti Malashe, Vikram Gaikwad, Rajan Bhise, Avani Joshi, and Seema Deshmukh. Commenting on the film’s theme, Gupte said, “Jarann is a psychological and emotional journey that uncovers the impact of blind beliefs like witchcraft on human lives. It’s more than just a horror story—it’s a reflection of deep-seated superstitions and their haunting consequences.”
Producer Amol Bhagat added, “The overwhelming response to the posters has been heartening. With the teaser, we aim to further grip the audience with the film’s intense atmosphere. The performances by Amruta Subhash and Anita Date are nothing short of phenomenal.”
Jarann explores the intersection of superstition, mental health, and family dynamics, positioning itself as one of the notable Marathi releases to watch out for this year.
