In August 2025, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire sold 16,509 units, a figure higher than the combined sales of all other sedans in the country. Its nearest rival, the Hyundai Aura, managed 5,336 units, while the Honda Amaze followed with 1,753 units.

The mid-size sedan space was led by the Volkswagen Virtus with 1,674 units, ahead of the Skoda Slavia at 1,008 units. Further down the chart, the Tata Tigor, including its EV version, contributed 805 units, while the Hyundai Verna stood at 771 units. The once-popular Honda City found only 437 buyers, and Toyota’s flagship Camry closed the tally with 158 units.

The Dzire’s ability to maintain dominance in an SUV-driven market lies in its balance of affordability, efficiency, and reliability. Priced from Rs 6.26 lakh (ex-showroom), it appeals strongly to middle-class households. Claimed fuel economy figures of 24.79 km/l for the petrol manual, 25.71 km/l for the AMT, and an exceptional 33.73 km/kg for the CNG version make it one of the most economical cars for both family use and daily commuting.

Even as SUVs steal the spotlight, Maruti has kept the Dzire relevant with timely updates. The latest model wears a modern grille, sharper LED headlights, and a refreshed fascia. The cabin gets a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera, and a sunroof—features that bring it closer to premium territory.

Under the hood, a new Z-Series 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine delivers 82bhp and 112Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. Safety is another standout area, with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, and a 5-star Global NCAP crash rating offered as standard.

Maruti has also tapped into the fleet market with the Dzire Tour S, launched in March 2025. It offers essential features, high efficiency, and practicality tailored for taxi operators. Combined with Maruti’s vast Arena dealership and service network, it gives the Dzire unmatched reach across India.

Backed by low running costs, strong resale value, and Maruti’s reliability, the Dzire continues to pull ahead of rivals like the Amaze, Aura, and Tigor. With factory-fitted CNG, better safety credentials, and superior fuel economy, it remains the benchmark in the compact sedan space, proving that even in an SUV-first market, the Dzire is still India’s undisputed sedan champion.
