South star, Dhanush will be next seen directing Idli Kadai. An audio launch event was held for the film, and the actor revealed that as a child, he had to sell flowers to earn pocket money to buy idlis. Social media felt sceptical about the same, and the actor answered the questions of how he could be poor when he is the son of director, Kasthuri Raja.
Dhanush shares selling flowers for Rs 2 to purchase idlis
Dhanush revealed how he and his sister used to earn Rs. 2 by selling flowers and putting in a lot of effort. They would then use that money to buy idlis. His statement had instantly gone viral on social media, but the actor didn’t care about what his industry fans actually thought. According to the actor, his father took the time to establish his position in the industry. Dhanush used to make money based on the number of flowers they collected. In his words:
“As a kid, I always craved idlis every single day, but I couldn’t afford them. Hence, we started collecting flowers from the neighbourhood. The money we get will be based on the amount of flowers we collect every day. My sister, cousins and I would wake up at 4 AM to do this for over two hours.”

Dhanush addressed the scepticism related to the childhood story he shared, where he revealed that he sold flowers to fulfil his idli cravings. Dhanush revealed he wanted to have pocket money, and this statement raised eyebrows of his fans as they questioned how he could struggle financially despite being the son of a big filmmaker. Questions related to how Dhanush struggled rose, and he shared:
“I was born in 1983, before my father made his first movie in 1991 (En Rasavin Manasile). He has four kids, and the budget at home was always tight. Educating us was the top priority, and we had to work for our pocket money. It was only around 1995 that we became stable financially and had a good lifestyle.”
Dhanush toiled under the sun for two hours daily, as he had to wake up at 4 a.m. for work. His story never got questioned initially, as he was the son of Kasthuri. For the unversed, Idli Kadai is the fourth directorial film of the star, post Pa Paandi, Raayan, and Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam. The stellar cast includes Nithya Menen, Shalini Pandey, Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, Samuthirakani, Parthiban, and many more. Dhanush has also played the lead role in the movie and has produced it under Wunderbar Studio with Dawn Pictures, Aakash Bhaskaran. GV Prakash composed the music of the film, and on October 1, 2025, the movie will release.

Dhanush releases a new poster of Idli Kadai
Dhanush, at the moment, is busy with the promotions of his family entertainer called Idli Kadai. The highly anticipated movie is inching closer to its finale and the poster has created a lot of excitement among his sea of fans. The actor took to his Instagram handle to write about how the film is about, “Two fathers, two sons, one emotion.” Fans immediately shared that they could not stop waiting for the movie to come. The trailer of Idli Kadai is interesting as ‘Murugan’is seen asking his dad to purchase an idli grinder for him so that the batter-making process is easy. Dhanush plays ‘Murugan’ and the film then revolves around their idli business.
