Her sudden demise earlier this week has left the golfing world in shock. On September 26, 2025, a close friend confirmed the news of her demise, which happened just before the beginning of Knapp’s Ryder Cup. Amid the heartbreaking news, the golfer has finally broken his silence.

Jake Knapp breaks his silence after girlfriend’s sudden death

Makena White’s last Instagram post before her unexpected passing now remains a beautiful but heartbreaking reminder of her love and support for Jake Knapp. Now, hours after the statement that confirmed the 28-year-old’s death, Knapp released a statement to PEOPLE, asking for privacy for White’s family and friends during this difficult time. The golfer shared:

“Makena was such a thoughtful person whose selflessness toward others is something I will always appreciate. We shared so many unforgettable memories together, and now that she’s no longer with us, it’s a tough reality to comprehend. She had an incredible family, great friends, and her fun, outgoing energy will be missed by all of us. It’s an understatement to say how hard all of this is to process for everyone who knew Mak, especially her family and friends, who deserve privacy and respect during this difficult time.”

Who was Makena White?

Makena White was born in Ottawa, Canada. She completed her graduation from McMaster University in 2019 with degrees in communications and software engineering. Later, she went on to build a career in surgical sales. Makena also had a deep personal tie to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic, where her late mother received treatment and care for Alzheimer’s before passing in 2022. 

In what has now become her final Instagram post, posted on August 11, 2025,  Makena made a heartwarming tribute to Jake Knapp, admiring his career and expressing her love for him. In the post, the 28-year-old shared a loved-up picture of them together and wrote:

“Year 2 of first fairway hugs and watching you live out your dreams. Second season in the books. Forever grateful to be on this walk with you. Here’s to many, many more to come. I looooove you, sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud.”

Inside Jake Knapp and Makena White’s relationship

Jake Knapp and Makena White reportedly began dating in August 2023, following which they went public in February 2024 after his Mexico Open victory. The PGA Tour even shared a clip of White excitedly celebrating the golfer’s win. The couple shared an emotional hug on the 18th green, and quickly went viral, bringing their love story into the spotlight.

Since their public appearance, White has been seen cheering for Jake Knapp, supporting him at tournaments, including the 2024 Masters, where he tied for 55th place. She was by his side when he shot a historic bogey-free 59 at the 2025 Cognizant Classic. Earlier this year, White shared a heartwarming post for Knapp, calling him her ‘very best friend’ as he wrote on her birthday:

“No matter where our crazy adventures take us, you make every place feel like home. I love you, sweet boy.”
