Ellen DeGeneres has been left heartbroken, as her ‘only boyfriend’, Tayt Andersen, passed away at the age of 19. Tayt was actually Ellen’s fan, and he appeared on her show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, several times throughout its run. While being there, he called Ellen his ‘girlfriend’, which led the host to tag him as her ‘only boyfriend’. Well, Tayt’s family recently announced the heartbreaking news of his passing. Tayt was born with half a heart; however, he managed to win everyone else’s hearts with his adorable antics while being on Ellen DeGeneres’ show. The host recently fought back her tears as she mourned Tayt’s demise on her social media.

Ellen DeGeneres took to her IG handle, and shared a video, wherein she could be seen fighting her tears back as she talked about her fan and ‘only boyfriend’, Tayt Andersen. In the video, she revealed that she had a special guest, Tayt, who appeared on her show several times, calling her his ‘girlfriend’, prompting her to tag him as her boyfriend as well. Ellen further added that as they called each other their girlfriend and boyfriend, it actually shocked her wife. She further remembered Tayt by stating that he was a very special little human being who filled every room he was in with love, laughter, and joy. Mentioning that she will miss him, Ellen said:
“We had a very special guest on the show several times, and his name is Tayt. And he thought that I was his girlfriend, and so I told him he was my boyfriend, which shocked my wife. But he was a very special little human being, and just brought joy and life and laughter into every room that he was in. I will miss him.”
The video, which Ellen dropped, featured a montage clip of her along with Tayt on her show. Tayt’s grief-stricken mom commented on Ellen’s post, stating that they love the host. She also thanked Ellen for giving Tayt ‘strength’. She penned:
“We love you so much. Thank you for being his girlfriend you gave him so much strength.”

Tayt Andersen appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ show back in 2013 and won hearts with his antics. He playfully called her ‘girlfriend’, and won the host and the audience’s hearts. As per the information on GoFundMe, Tayt was born with half a heart and underwent a total of 12 surgeries by the time he was 9. When he turned 10, he received a heart transplant, which eventually led him to be diagnosed further with post-transplant lymphoma. Back in 2024, Tayt was diagnosed with bladder cancer, and by June 2025, it had spread to his spine, neck, pelvis and abdomen, and he was given only four months to live.
It was on September 26, 2025, when Tayt Andersen’s family released a statement, revealing that he had passed away after a tough battle in the last few days. His family members, with broken hearts, talked about Tayt being kind, strong, and always holding a special love for everyone he met. According to the statement, the infection spread throughout his body, but he remained strong until he could no longer bear it. An excerpt from the statement could be read as:
“He was so alert and responsive on Sunday, but by the night, he was in pain. After a long night, he finally found peace and drifted off to sleep around 4:00 a.m. Monday. He remained asleep and unresponsive, resting comfortably, until he passed away peacefully early this morning.”
