Ryan Reynolds chose to hurl an F-bomb at his wife, Blake Lively, rather than miss a call from Bill Murray.
The “Deadpool” actor recalled leaving “40 messages” for Murray in an attempt to get him to participation in the documentary “John Candy: I Like Me,” during a Thursday appearance for the film in New Jersey, according to the Daily Mail.
Reynolds, 48, finally got the iconic actor’s phone number from “a friend of a friend of a friend” and left a voicemail requesting the opportunity to “pick [Murray’s] brain” over the life of late fellow comedian John Candy. “I’ll come to you. I’ll do whatever it takes,” he recalled saying in the message.
Later, the “Free Guy” actor found himself stepping out with Lively, 38, for a formal event. “I’m there with my wife and we’re about to walk in and my phone buzzes, and I look at it,” Reynolds said. “It says Bill Murray and I go, “Bill Murray!”
In response, he recalled the mother of four whispering, “We have to go in!” to which he replied, “F–k you!”
Reynolds revealed the “Groundhog Day” star said he’d get back to him about the documentary, after which he “left another 40 messages” in an admittedly “desperate” attempt to wrap up filming on the project.
The actor ultimately took a different approach, creating a video message as two of his children attempted to distract him.
Reynolds said he had his son issue the request for good measure. “I said, ‘If you say no to a child like that, I don’t know what kind of monster you are,’” he joked. The actor’s strategy worked, and Murray’s return call came “two seconds later.”
“What do you need from me for JC [John Candy]?” Reynolds recalled the “What About Bob” star asking.
A rep for Lively did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment on the alleged encounter.
Reynolds and Lively married in 2012 and have since welcomed kids James, 10, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and Olin, 2. The high-profile duo — who are currently embroiled in Lively’s “It Ends With Us” legal battle with Justin Baldoni — are known for playfully trolling one another via social media and in public appearances.
In a 2024 interview, Reynolds revealed the secret of success to his years-long marriage to the “Gossip Girl” alum. “As I’m rooting for her, I know she’s rooting for me, and it’s why we’re so connected,” he told People.
The couple was spotted closing out their summer with a sunny boating trip earlier this month.
