Ayushmann Khurrana, blockbuster producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films, director Aditya Sarpotdar, writer Niren Bhatt and the much-loved Stree, that is, Shraddha Kapoor, attended the trailer launch of Maddock’s highly awaited film, Thamma. At the event, Dinesh Vijan and Shraddha Kapoor opened up about the future of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
Thamma trailer launch: Dinesh Vijan talks about future of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe: “Two more characters to be introduced…Shakti Shalini and Chamunda’s release in 2026”; Shraddha Kapoor’s epic reply to a fan screaming “I love you”: “Aapko pata hai na mere papa kaun hai?”
Dinesh Vijan began by saying, “The first film (Stree; 2018) had to work. After that, we intentionally left bread crumbs throughout the film. The idea was that we have such a rich folklore. We look at the West for these kinds of films. But this film is about Betaals. Betaals are enriched in our culture. We look at the West (when they make a film on these lines) and say, ‘Such an original thought’. Because we are such an old civilization, a lot of original ideas are actually taken from our history. However, we were very aspirational to the West. Thanks to the way India has progressed and we have become proud of who we are, it brought a change in the last ten years. It made us want to build our own universe.”
He added, “Some very wise people told me very early on that ‘Whatever you do, create a box so that they can all exist’. This universe is that box where we cage a few monsters!”
About the next film of the series, Dinesh Vijan said, “There are going to be two more characters that’ll be introduced. Thamma will carry the next announcement of what’s releasing the following year. Just like how Munjya and Stree 2 came back-to-back, similarly, six months after the release of Thamma, Shakti Shalini and Chamunda will arrive. After that, we’ll go to the second part (of Thamma). Then, Shraddha will announce what’s going to come before Stree 3.”
Shraddha Kapoor took over and announced the theatrical animated film, Chhoti Stree. When Shraddha was asked if she would have a cameo in Thamma, she replied, “Iss baat ko thoda suspense mein rakhein? What say? Watch Thamma and you’ll get your answer (smiles).”
An interesting moment occurred at this point when a fan shouted, “I love you Shraddha.” Shraddha Kapoor asked him, “Accha itne openly (bol diya)?” Then she joked, “Aapko pata hai na mere papa kaun hai?”
Thamma releases in cinemas on October 21.
