Oral beauty brand Moon is gearing up for the holiday season ahead with a fan-favorite fictional character.

Following the success of its Strawberry Smile collaboration with Sanrio, Moon is teaming up again with Hello Kitty to launch a mint and chocolate-flavored collection, featuring a few of the beauty brand’s bestselling essentials, such as the whitening pen duo and toothpaste. The limited-edition drop will also include a Moon x Hello Kitty Peppermint Hot Chocolate Kit, priced at $29.99.

The Moon x Hello Kitty holiday collection with peppermint and hot chocolate flavors.

According to Moon, the original electric toothbrush created in collaboration with Hello Kitty, which sold out last year, is also back in stock with a matching travel case and two brush heads to last the customer six months.

A festive rendition of oral health tools, the collection boasts bright red hues and candy cane-inspired patterns with pictures of Hello Kitty laid over. In the official press release, Moon said the inspiration for this kit stemmed from a recent study by Mintel, a market research company, which found that “53 percent of oral care users (in the U.S.) are interested in unique flavors.”

The fluoride-free toothpaste, available for $14.99, promises to taste like a melting pot of hot cocoa and peppermint, all while helping to remove plaque build-up and surface stains. Meanwhile, the whitening pen duo, priced at $39.99, isn’t infused with a flavor; however, the product is powered by light-reflecting pigments.

The collection will feature a limited-edition whitening pen duo, as well as an electric toothbrush and toothpaste.

“We’ve loved watching our partnership with Hello Kitty bring joy to fans of all ages and transform everyday oral care into something more playful, flavorful and full of personality,” Amber Saylor, vice president of brand and marketing at Moon, told WWD. “Whitening has always been at the heart of what Moon does best, so we’re excited to introduce a fun twist on our bestselling teeth whitening pen.”

The oral health category underwent a total refresh in the last few years, as brands and consumers have turned their focus from aesthetics and appearance to examining the impact of the mouth on overall health. Moon was a catalyst for this movement, inspiring a new oral beauty subcategory. Interest in oral care has also been bolstered by a proliferation in prescribed GLP-1 drug users. Concerns online have stirred conversations about whether the deterioration of oral health is a potential side effect of semaglutides.

WWD previously spoke with Dr. Sandip Sachar, a Manhattan-based dentist, who assured there was no scientific evidence to suggest Ozempic can lead to oral health complications, however, people taking GLP-1 medications tend to drink less water, which has subsequently led to the presence of dry mouth. When a person experiences dry mouth, it means there’s less protective saliva being produced to help “neutralize acidic foods and drinks, wash away food debris and decreased plaque buildup,” Sachar explained.
