A government bank employee revealed that they received a warning email from the HR department after taking a single day of sick leave.
On Reddit’s r/IndianWorkplace, the employee also shared a screenshot of the email that conveyed taking leave without prior permission is considered a serious violation of official discipline.
The employee also indicated that the email required a written explanation within three days, warning that failing to respond would be treated as an absence of satisfactory explanation. This, the employee said, left them surprised, considering it was just one day of leave due to illness.
Titled “There is no work-life balance in government banks,” the Reddit post included a caption: “So I took a one-day leave because I was sick and this is what I received the next day. For all the people who think getting a government job in India is a good choice, think again.”
The screenshot of the email showed that the HR department, under the subject line “Explanation for Proceeding on Leave Without Prior Permission,” reminded the employee that such conduct “reflects negligence towards official responsibilities and disregard for administrative discipline.”
The post prompted discussions about strict leave policies in government jobs and the pressures faced by employees.
Meanwhile, another Reddit post shared by a government bank employee also went viral earlier this week wherein the man talked about the struggles that led him to walk away from his job.
