Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s new chat show Two Much with Twinkle and Kajol has been winning a lot of hearts by having deep conversations and discussions on serious subjects that most such shows avoid. In a recent episode of Two Much, the two hostesses were joined by the iconic duo of Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. As two of the most influential figures in Bollywood, the hostesses asked both the superstars tough questions about the age gap between the hero and heroine in Bollywood.
Twinkle Khanna and Kajol question Salman and Aamir Khan on the male-female actors age gap in the industry
Twinkle Khanna left Bollywood in 2001. However, as an author and columnist, she has always taken an interest in exploring the socio-political dynamics of Indian cinema. Meanwhile, Kajol has remained a superstar, despite taking short breaks during her pregnancies. Hence, Kajol, who is still an integral part of Bollywood, asked the guests, Aamir Khan and Salman:
“So, when the hero romances a younger heroine, it’s called cinema magic. But when an older heroine romances a younger man, it’s called ‘bold.’ Why do you think that is?”
Aamir Khan said it all depends on the requirements of the story, citing his film Dil Chahta Hai as an example, where a younger Akshaye Khanna was cast opposite Dimple Kapadia, who is much older than him. Twinkle then stated that Aamir has always had younger heroines, such as Kareena Kapoor Khan, who starred with him in three films. Aamir responded by rhetorically asking if he and ‘Bebo’ did not look the same age. Salman Khan jokingly said no and stated that he and Kareena looked the same age instead.
Aamir Khan and Salman Khan defend the pairing of older heroes and younger heroines
Aamir Khan defended the practice of casting younger heroines opposite old heroes and said that filmmaking isn’t real, it just has to look convincing. However, Twinkle Khanna countered that it never happens the other way around. Heroines in their 40s and 50s are given motherly roles, she stated. Salman Khan then interjected that his contemporary female stars, Madhuri Dixit and the late Sridevi, could have continued to be their love interests in films, but the pairings are ‘dated’. He was quoted as saying:
“But if there’s an upcoming star that the producer or director wants… we’ve worked with older heroines so much that the pairing looks dated now. So, it’s more about freshness. So, that’s when you take somebody you’ve not worked with as much.”

Kajol again debated Salman’s point and stated the same argument as Twinkle Khanna, that it doesn’t happen the other way around. Salman blamed it on the script and said:
“But how many scripts like that do you really get? But I don’t think that if the movie is good, and the story is really woven around an older woman and a younger man, I don’t think anybody would mind that.”
What are your thoughts on the discussions around the difference in older heroes and heroines in Two Much with Twinkle and Kajol?
