Akansha Ranjan Kapoor is set to appear in a new avatar in Prime Video’s upcoming drama series Gram Chikitsalay. The show, set in the fictional village of Bhathkandi, offers a look at the healthcare system in rural India while blending realism with moments of warmth, satire, and social commentary.

In the series, Kapoor plays Dr. Gargi, a character that required her to push personal boundaries—particularly by learning to ride a scooty for the first time. The actor, who has previously spoken about her discomfort with two-wheelers, said the role forced her out of her comfort zone.
“I learnt to ride a scooty specifically for Gram Chikitsalay,” Kapoor shared and continued, “When I first met Rahul, the director, he asked me if I knew how to ride one. I said no, and he casually replied, ‘Seekh lo.’ I remember telling him, ‘I’ve never ridden a bicycle in my life—how am I supposed to do this?’ I’ve always had a fear of two-wheelers. But then he teased, ‘Either learn, or you lose the show.’ So, while we were filming, they called a body double for the scene, but I was like, ‘No, I’ll do it myself! I’ve been learning to ride a scooty for a month now, and I want to do the shot.’ We ended up filming for three to four hours, and honestly, I had a blast. It’s something I learnt solely for the series, and I am proud of it.”
Directed by Rahul Pandey and produced by The Viral Fever (TVF), Gram Chikitsalay follows the journey of Dr. Prabhat, a city-based physician who relocates to a neglected Primary Health Centre in rural India. The series explores the various hurdles he faces while trying to revive healthcare access in the village.
The series is created by Deepak Kumar Mishra and written by Vaibhav Suman and Shreya Shrivastava. Alongside Kapoor, the ensemble cast includes Amol Parashar, Vinay Pathak, Anandeshwar Dwivedi, Akash Makhija, and Garima Vikrant Singh. The show will premiere on May 9 exclusively on Prime Video in India and in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
