Veteran actor Kamal Haasan took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to extend heartfelt congratulations to child actor Treesha Thosar, who recently won the National Award for Best Child Artist for her performance in the Marathi film Naal 2.
“You’ve beaten my record!”: Kamal Haasan congratulates Treesha Thosar, youngest ever winner of national award for best child artist
Haasan not only praised Treesha’s talent but also pointed out that she had broken his own record. He wrote, “Dear Ms. Treesha Thosar, my loudest applause goes to you. You’ve beaten my record, as I was already six when I got my first award! Way to go madam. Keep working on your incredible talent. My appreciation to your elders in the house.”
Kamal Haasan had received the National Award for Best Child Artist for his role in the 1960 Tamil film Kalathur Kannamma.
Who is Treesha Thosar?
At just six years old, Treesha Vivek Thosar captured hearts across the nation when she stepped on stage at Vigyan Bhavan in a simple beige saree to receive her National Award. Her natural charm, innocence, and radiant smile earned her one of the loudest applauses of the ceremony.
Treesha received the Best Child Artist award for her role in Naal 2, a sequel to the critically acclaimed Marathi film Naal, directed by Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti. What made her achievement even more special was the fact that she had shot for the film when she was just turning three years old.
After receiving the award from President Droupadi Murmu, Treesha shared her excitement with ANI, saying she felt happy and grateful for the honour.
A Rising Star in Marathi and Hindi Cinema
Despite her young age, Treesha has already worked in several Hindi and Marathi films. She has appeared alongside industry veterans like Mahesh Manjrekar and Siddharth Jadhav, and also played a significant role in Manjrekar’s directorial film Punha Shivaji Raje Bhosale. However, her breakthrough role as Chimi in Naal 2 has made her a household name and a talent to watch in the future.
Treesha Thosar’s Instagram Post Goes Viral
Following her big win, Treesha’s official Instagram account shared a video of her receiving the award, along with photos from the event — including one with Shah Rukh Khan. The caption celebrated the milestone, highlighting her age and the emotional reaction from her family: “71st national award for best child actor goes to Miss.Treesha Vivek Thosar for NAAL 2… And the applause and thundering of claps was going on and on… At the tender age of just six, when I went on stage to accept such a great honour, the entire auditorium stood up and applauded with thunderous claps. My parents and grandparents hugged each other tightly, crying their hearts out — clapping, crying, and smiling all at once.”
Treesha added that while she doesn’t yet fully understand the scale of her achievement, she knows it has made her state of Maharashtra and her family proud. She concluded the post by thanking her parents, her film’s team, director Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti, the jury, and her audience for their love and support. She promised to continue working with the same passion and dedication in the future.
