Patna is set to host a high-profile Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on September 24, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi expected to attend. Kharge is scheduled to arrive this evening around 6 pm, accompanied by other senior leaders, while Rahul and Sonia will reach the city tomorrow morning at 8:30 am.
The extended CWC meeting will be held at the historic Sadaqat Ashram at 10 am and comes in the wake of Gandhi’s 1,300-km ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ across Bihar. Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states and all other CWC members have also been invited. Later in the day, Rahul Gandhi will launch the Atipichhda Nyay Sankalp initiative at Hotel Chanakya, Patna, marking a key political outreach ahead of the state assembly elections later this year.
Preparations for the event have been affected by unseasonal rains, which have caused waterlogging across Patna just days ahead of the Durga Puja festivities. Despite flooding at Sadaqat Ashram, Congress headquarters in Bihar, party workers said their enthusiasm remains high as they work to ensure the venue is ready and arrangements for the leaders’ arrival are in place.
Krishna Allavaru, AICC Bihar in-charge, earlier described the state as “the centre of national politics” and called the CWC gathering part of Congress’s “second war of Independence” in Bihar. He also noted ongoing talks on seat-sharing within the INDIA bloc, describing them as positive, while alleging disarray in the BJP-led NDA.
With assembly elections approaching later this year, the meeting is seen as a crucial opportunity for Congress to finalise strategies, strengthen organisational cohesion, and project unity ahead of the campaign season.
