A short video of a man drawing parallels between traffic jams in Pune and Germany has gone viral.

Karan Singh, known to his followers as ‘carswithkaran’, shared the clip on Instagram with the caption: “Think we’re capable of this discipline here?”

In the video, which has garnered over 1.7 lakh views so far, Singh pointed out how drivers in Germany respond to a jam with surprising order.

“On a two-lane highway, people in the left lane stick to the extreme left and those on the right move to the extreme right, leaving the centre lane free for emergency vehicles,” he explained.

He added that such a practice needed no extra infrastructure, just “a little bit of respect towards emergency vehicles.”

The post soon opened the floodgates of opinions in the comments section. “Yes, civic sense is a big problem. But saying it doesn’t need infrastructure is a stretch. Look at the road breadth, the quality,” one of the users commented.

“Strict rules and fines bring obedience, mate. Your comparison isn’t valid without that,” a user said, while another joked, “Bro, you are comparing the traffic in Pune with Germany. Are you serious?”

Whether or not Karan Singh escaped the jam, one thing was certain: his video sparked a debate on traffic discipline and civic sense.
