The NFL has fined Travis Kelce $14,491 for making “obscene gestures” during last week’s match between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NBC Sports.
The game — which saw the two teams facing off seven months after the Eagles beat the Chiefs at the Super Bowl back in February — aired live Sept. 14 on Fox.
After a 23-yard game by the Chiefs, Kelce celebrated by gesturing animatedly to his groin, seemingly directing his movements toward Philadelphia’s sideline. The moment went viral on social media; you can what Kelce did here and here.
The NFL announced in August that it would be cracking down on gestures that were unsportsmanlike, violent and sexually suggestive.
The Chiefs ultimately lost the Sept. 14 to the Eagles by a score of 20-17. They are taking on the New York Giants on Sunday night; both teams are winless this season.
Last week’s Chiefs-Eagles game also was noteworthy for another reason unrelated to any action on the field: For the first time, Kelce’s now-fiancée Taylor Swift was hidden from view behind mobile barriers when she arrived at the game, prompting a slew of speculation about the reasons behind that.
In addition to Kelce’s popular podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with brother Jason, a retired NFL pro, Kelce is also dabbling in acting, with roles in Grotesquerie, co-created by Ryan Murphy, and Happy Gilmore 2.
