A man fled with a motorcycle under the pretence of taking a test drive at a bike repair and resale shop in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Friday evening. The shop owner has filed a police complaint.
The incident took place at Indira Gate, where complainant Rashid runs a motorcycle repair and used bike sales shop. According to Rashid, a man came to his shop expressing interest in purchasing a used bike and finalised a deal for Rs 15,000. He then requested a test drive.
Rashid handed over the bike, after which the man left and did not return. The shopkeeper waited until evening, but when the man failed to reappear, he retrieved CCTV footage from his premises and reported the incident to the Nauchandi police station.
The CCTV footage shows the accused in a white shirt and pants, wearing a white cap and a scarf around his neck. The accused, like a normal customer, is seen taking the bike for a test drive.
Rashid alleges that the accused was brought to his shop by an acquaintance and was identified as Ayan. When he approached the police with the complaint, Rashid was reportedly asked to bring the person in whose name the bike is registered before any further steps could be taken.
Circle Officer (CO) Civil Lines Abhishek Tiwari said that he currently has no official information about the case. He assured that if a complaint is received, an investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will follow.
The matter remains under preliminary review as the shopkeeper prepares to comply with police requirements to advance the investigation.
