Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains arrive in Guwahati

Zubeen Garg passed away during a scuba diving accident in Singapore, where he had to perform. But it turned out to be his last trip, which took his life. On September 21, 2025, Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains arrived at Guwahati airport, and it was taken to his home. Several of his fans gathered and joined his last ride. Many mourned his untimely passing, while others hailed him, ‘Jai Zubin da’.

Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg and senior state government officials received the body of the singer. The mortal remains were taken out of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport through a VIP exit in a flower-decked ambulance. Not only this, but fans were also heard singing and shouting as the convoy navigated through the crowd. Some wailed, ‘Why Zubeen da, why did you have to leave us so soon?’.

Zubeen’s favourite vehicle, which was an open jeep, was also part of his last convoy. He used to travel in it to venues when he performed. A huge portrait of Zubeen was positioned in the front, and his musical team was inside the vehicle. People have reached Guwahati in large numbers from across states to pay their last respects to those who had ruled for more than three decades. He had sung more than 38,000 songs in 40 languages. It is worth adding that Zubeen’s mortal remains have been taken to his Kahilipara residence, where they will be kept for about one-and-a-half hours for his family members, including his 85-year-old ailing father.

Fans fulfilled Zubeen Garg’s last wish

Zubeen Garg once, during a concert, revealed that when he dies, his fans should sing, ‘Mayabini Ratir Bukut‘ at his funeral. He wanted the song to be sung across Assam after his passing. He said, “This song is my fantasy. When I die, the entire Assam has to sing this song.” After his death, fans gathered outside his home and fulfilled their favourite singer’s final request.

Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia, reveals the real cause of death of the singer

After the news broke that Zubeen Garg died during a fatal scuba diving mishap, his wife, Garima Saikia, revealed the truth. In an interview with The Times of India, Garima shared that her husband was with seven or eight people on a yacht in Singapore. She mentioned that his friends and drummers, Shekhar and Sidhartha, were also with him. She added that they had their safety jackets on. However, her husband didn’t die of a fall during scuba diving, but rather he suffered a seizure attack when he went back swimming. She said:

“They swam together and returned to the shore on the yacht. All of them were wearing life jackets. But Zubeen went to swim again and suffered a seizure attack. He suffered seizure attacks on several occasions earlier but escaped death. Other team members rescued him after seeing something unusual. He was kept in the ICU at Singapore General Hospital for about two hours.”
