Indian-origin Labor MLC Dr Parwinder Kaur said Aboriginal Australians have up to 11% of Indian DNA.

Indian-origin Australian Labor leader Parwinder Kaur is going viral for her recent speech amid anti-immigrant protests in her country as she said Indians are more Australians and South Asians share deep ancestral links with Aboriginal Australians. Kaur made the speech in parliament on September 9 where she cited DNA and genetics study, “As per DNA evidence, and it goes back not just a few generations but approximately 141 generations, the people and the community who were targeted, particularly because of the number of migrants in this country, which is my community, the South Asian community, or the Indian community in general, has genes that are integrated in the very first people of this nation,” she said.Kaur said some Aboriginal Australians carry up to 11 per cent of their ancestry from Indian migrants. Indian genes have been integrated into the very first people of this nation, Kaur said adding that the debate as to who is more Australian and how that should be defined should stop. “…because if we are looking for evidence, the evidence is very, very clear,” Kaur said. Then she cited documents and claimed that 8.6 million Australians were born overseas. Migrants hold nearly half of Australia’s STEM jobs, she said, adding that over 40% of doctors and 35% of nurses were trained overseas. “By 2050, migration will make the Australian economy 40% larger than it would otherwise be….These are hard facts that migrants do not take from Australia; they make Australia,” she said. Kaur drew flak as critics claimed that she suggested that Indians are more Australian than the Whites. “This woman only migrated to Australia in 2007. Comments like this only cause more division & for Australians to resent these people. The level of new migrant entitlement is unbelievable,” one commented.

    Who is Parwinder Kaur?

Parwinder Kayr is a biotechnologist and scientist who migrated to Australia from Punjab in 2007 when she was a PhD scholar. In June, she became the first parliamentarian in Australia to be sworn in on the Sikh scripture Gutka Sahib, wearing traditional attire embroidered with the Ik Onkar symbol.
