It’s Day 7 of the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo as Noah Lyles will be the headlining act of the day as he heads out onto the track for the men’s 200m final on Friday, September 19. India’s Annu Rani will be aiming to make it to the women’s javelin final, while Gulveer Singh will also be in action.
Lyles was out to make a statement on Thursday during the heats after missing out on gold in the 100m final. The three-time World Champion decided to blaze past his competition and qualify for the final, in the process setting the fastest semifinal time ever recorded in the event at 19.51 seconds. Lyles is aiming to win the 200m event for the fourth consecutive time, a feat that the great Usain Bolt achieved from 2009 to 2015 in the World Championships.
The American promised everyone that he would put on a magical performance in the final on Friday, raising expectations.
“I surprised myself. I kind of backed up a little bit as we got to the last 20 metres, but I’m going to put on a whole race in the final,” said Lyles.

Annu Rani aims to reach final
Annu is competing in her fifth World Championships and will be looking to make it to the final. However, inorder to do that she will need to breach the 62.50m qualification mark or finish inside the top 12. The Asian Games champion has a personal best of 63.82m, which is the national record as well.
This season, her best was 62.59m and will be hoping for a good showing on Friday.
Gulveer will be taking part in the 5000m heats and looking to put behind the disappointment of 10,000m final, where he finished 16th.
