During her appearance on The Ranveer Show podcast, Ameesha Patel shared heartfelt memories of her long-standing bond with Hrithik Roshan, tracing their friendship back to their childhood. More than just co-stars in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, the two were family friends for years. Ameesha revealed that their fathers went to the same school, and as kids, their families would often meet at social gatherings and family functions, creating a close-knit connection long before their Bollywood debut together.
Ameesha Patel recalls childhood bond with Hrithik Roshan: “I was the one who first called him the ‘Greek God’ of Bollywood”
“I remember there was a party when I was just 13,” Ameesha recalled. “Rakesh Roshan uncle told my father, ‘I’ll launch her with Duggu (Hrithik) one day—she dances so well and is so pretty.’” A decade later, that promise came true as the two debuted together in the blockbuster film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.
Ameesha spoke fondly about Hrithik’s early doubts regarding his future in films. “He would often wonder if he could really make it as a star. But I was always certain—he had everything it takes,” she said. “In fact, I was the one who first called him the ‘Greek God’ of Bollywood.”
She also revealed that Hrithik was extremely disciplined, especially when it came to his health. “He maintained a journal about his medical issues and fitness. He was always so organised and hard on himself,” she said. “Both of us would often stand in front of the mirror, not admiring ourselves, but looking for flaws.”
Recalling the release day of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Ameesha shared a charming anecdote: “We went to watch the film at Eros Theatre in Churchgate. During the interval, we stepped out for a food break, and suddenly, we saw crowds rushing toward us. We just ran out of the theatre—it was overwhelming. That night, we were out with friends and just kept repeating, ‘Yaar, hum toh star ban gaye!’ It was surreal.”
Even before their debut film released, Ameesha and Hrithik had signed multiple films. She had already taken on roles in Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage with Hrithik, and also signed major projects with Ajay Devgn and Pawan Kalyan. “My Telugu film with Pawan Kalyan didn’t release, but I still became one of the popular actresses in Telugu cinema at the time, which was unheard of,” she said.
She also fondly recalled a live event in Delhi, The Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai Show, where the entire cricket stadium was packed with fans eager to catch a glimpse of her and Hrithik. “Even Salman Khan was there, and he was genuinely concerned for our safety because of the massive crowd,” she shared. “In fact, it was Salman’s bodyguard, Shera, who helped us safely exit the venue through the overwhelming rush.”
Ameesha expressed deep gratitude for the love she received from her debut film and for Hrithik’s rise through his multiple hits. “That time was so beautiful and welcoming. I saw a similar love recently with Gadar 2, just like I did with Gadar and Humraaz back in the day. I’m very thankful for all of it.”
