Actor Ameesha Patel has opened up about a deeply personal chapter from her life, revealing how she once walked away from love to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. Speaking with Ranveer Allahbadia on The Ranveer Show, the Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai star reflected on her first serious relationship and the difficult decision she had to make at the threshold of her career.
Ameesha Patel reveals she chose career over love before entering films; says, “My person, my companion, did not want a person in the public eye”
“I had a serious relationship in my life before I decided to join films. It was my first and only actual relationship,” Ameesha shared candidly. However, the relationship reached a crossroads when she chose to enter the world of cinema. She revealed, “When I decided to make my foray into cinema, my person, my companion, did not want a person in the public eye. And that’s why I chose career over love. And that was the only time.”
The actor admitted that the decision was not easy and left her heartbroken at the time. “It did hurt at that time. But I was so young, I was barely 21. Of course, as per Indian standards it was the right time to get married. But for me, it was not the right time,” Ameesha explained.
She further elaborated on her mindset then, saying, “First, I had to find myself who is Ameesha? Is Ameesha just a daughter? Am I just ready to become a daughter and a wife? And then will I take care of the house and the kitchen? And then the same cycle. I did not want that cycle.”
Ameesha, who went on to make a successful debut with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000, emphasized that her decision was about self-discovery and choosing independence over convention. Her reflections offer a rare glimpse into the personal sacrifices behind her journey into films.
