Meta is expanding the capabilities of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with a new AI feature called Detailed Responses. This feature uses the built-in camera and Meta AI to provide users with more descriptive information about their surroundings. Meta has also announced the expansion of its Call a Volunteer feature. Both announcements are part of Global Accessibility Awareness Day.

Ray-Ban Meta’s new Detailed Responses feature aims at bringing a more hands-free user experience with the smart glasses. The feature allows Meta AI to provide richer, more contextual information about what the user is looking at. This feature will be particularly helpful for blind or low vision individuals who rely on auditory feedback to understand their environment. According to Meta, the new feature can be enabled under the Accessibility settings in the Meta AI app by toggling on “Detailed Responses”.

In a demonstration video shared by the company, Meta AI gives a quick look at how the Ray-Ban Meta describes a waterside park, pointing out “well-manicured grassy areas,” trees, and walking paths—offering more depth than basic object recognition.

Ray-Ban Meta Detailed Responses feature availability

Meta will be rolling out its new Detailed Responses feature in the U.S. and Canada over the coming week. The company has also confirmed its plans to expand this functionality to additional countries in the future, though no specific timelines or regions were mentioned.

Expanding availability of Call a Volunteer feature

Meta has also announced the broader rollout of its Call a Volunteer feature. The feature has been developed in partnership with the Be My Eyes organisation. Initially launched in select markets, this AI feature will now be available in all 18 countries where Meta AI is supported.

The feature allows users to connect in real-time with a network of over 8 million sighted volunteers by saying, “Hey Meta, Be My Eyes.” The volunteer can then view the user’s surroundings through a live feed from the glasses’ camera and assist with tasks like identifying products, reading labels, or giving directions.

Meta says that with these new features, it aims to improve the usability of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses for blind and low vision users. “Ray-Ban Meta glasses offer a hands-free form factor and Meta AI integrations — features that help everyone navigate daily life, but can be especially useful to the blind and low vision community,” the company noted in a blog post.

    Ray-Ban Meta features

The Ray-Ban Meta glasses were launched in 2023 and are equipped with smart features: open-ear speakers, a built-in camera, and voice-enabled Meta AI support. Users can take photos, record videos, send messages, translate speech in real-time, and interact with the Meta AI assistant — all without needing to reach for a phone.

The company is also continuing to expand the global availability of the device. Meta recently introduced the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in India at a starting price of Rs 29,900. The smart glasses will be available in the market from 17 June.
