Indian filmmaker Anuparna Roy recently made history at the 82nd Venice Film Festival by winning the Best Director award in the Orizzonti section for her film Songs of Trees. During her acceptance speech, she thanked the jury, audience, her producer, and her cast—Naaz Shaikh and Sumi Baghel—while also giving a special mention to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for believing in her vision from the beginning.

Reacting to Anuparna’s heartfelt words, Anurag Kashyap, in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama during the promotions of his upcoming film Nishaanchi, expressed humility. He said, “That’s very generous of her to thank me for that because it is her own grit and passion. It’s the way she went against all odds and did that. Bibhanshu Rai, Romil Modi, Ranjan Singh (other producers), and Naveen Shetty (co-producer) were the people who literally did all the job to help her make that film and put it together, along with her actresses (Naaz Shaikh and Sumi Baghel). It was very generous of her to thank me. She is a lot of great.”
Meanwhile, Kashyap is gearing up for the release of his directorial Nishaanchi, which arrives in cinemas on September 19. Produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under Jar Pictures, in association with Flip Films, the film is co-written by Prasoon Mishra, Ranjan Chandel, and Kashyap himself. The action-drama stars debutant Aaishvary Thackeray in a double role, alongside Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, and Kumud Mishra.
