An earthquake of 4.5 magnitude has jolted China in the early hours of Friday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremors occurred around 06:29 am IST and were recorded at a depth of 10 km.The NCS posted the details of the earthquake on its X account. The epicentre was located at a latitude of 25.05 N and longitude of 99.72 E. Just days before on 12 May, an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude at a depth of 9 km occurred in parts of Tibet and China at 02:41 am.There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Experts suggested that shallow earthquakes are more dangerous because the seismic waves travel a shorter distance before reaching the earth’s surface causing greater damage.China is situated on the Eurasian tectonic plate. It is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries.
